Working in a brick-and-mortar shop, our attention is often focused on pushing the envelope—toward the next season, that is. That means at the moment we’re thinking of and merchandising thoughtful gifts to celebrate moms, dads, and grads.
Inside On Paper, come see us!
In our last post we said these suggestions would be focused on the art of writing. That’s mainly true, but it’s also the perfect time of year to shine a light on our favorite fragrances, some of which are new to the shop and some which have become On Paper classics.
Our very best selling perfume is Lollia’s Wish—a fresh, sugared pastille scent. This truly is our go-to. It’s universally wearable and light as can be. If a full bottle of perfume feels like too much of a commitment, we also carry the shea butter hand cream and soap. Any or all of these are a perfect way to WISH her a very happy Mother’s Day.
Recently added to our selection are four scents from Voluspa. Because spring has sprung (or is about to), we’re especially drawn to the Prosecco Bellini and the sweetly citrus Saijo Persimmon (both available in a reed and oil diffuser, an elegant glass candle, petite candle tins, and room spray). An excellent and bubbly gift would be a Bellini toast to Mom or your favorite graduate, and candle to match.

Dads and guy grads aren’t forgotten at the On Paper apothecary. Our best-selling men’s fragrance, Tobacco 1812, calls to mind dark leather chairs, gilt-edged books, and faint pipe tobacco.
Eau my, that’s good!
But back to what we originally intended to discuss—whether you’re shopping for Mom, Dad, or the newly graduated, we’re ready with some suggestions inspired by writing.
We’re especially fond of the Recife rollerball pen. This sleek French number comes in classically sophisticated colors of black, grey, and ivory, and bright springy hues like jade, orange, and fuchsia. While it’s handsome as can be, it also writes like a dream: form and function, a match made in heaven (Paris, actually).

A hand-bound leather journal knows no season, but makes an excellent gift for graduates heading out on new adventures. Our selection includes ornate hand-tooled covers, rustically stitched binding, and snap, wrap, and buckle closures. All of the leather journals contain archival paper, so brilliant ideas and pithy musings can be appreciated for generations to come (or kept pristinely private).
Dear diary, had a Mother's Day for the books!
If the thought of the blank page staring back is intimidating, maybe something with little more guidance is the trick. The gilt-edged World Travel journal has become a staple of the shop and for good reason. With prompts like “Purpose/Activity,” “Lodging” and “Weather” you (or the recipient) can keep details from a lifetime of travel. Adding to the appeal of this pocket-sized journal are maps of major cities across the globe, conversion charts, an address book, and a perpetual calendar.

We also stock two “Line A Day” journals: a delightfully low stakes approach to journaling. It is what it sounds like with just room enough for writing one line a day for five years. One of these is specifically geared for new moms and would make a fantastic Mother’s Day gift.
With this much warning, there is plenty of time to order personalized stationery. Your dad’s name in a handsome sans serif font and a motif representing his favorite hobby (fishing, biking, cooking, etc.) could be ordered and back in the shop in about two weeks time. Stationery is the gift that gives back in the form of handwritten letters you can save and reread forever.
On Paper represents over 30 printers, let's design some stationery!
We know you like to give thoughtful gifts and hope our suggestions have inspired you. Come into the shop for other staff favorites including exquisite handmade jewelry, antique French desk accessories, and scrumptious chocolates.
