Wedding Invitations--5 Trends du Jour

Maybe it’s the cozy afghan blankets we’re snuggled under, or the twinkling lights strung across mantle pieces, or maybe it’s the grown up cider we’re sipping, but the winter holidays seem to bring out the romantics. How do we know?

Every January, On Paper’s custom printing department begins to buzz and bustle with newly engaged couples looking for the perfect save the dates and wedding invitations. If you happen to be planning wedding, or are simply interested in design trends, read on for our most popular trends du jour!

Marble

Marble is the pattern of clicking high heels and oxfords, glinting chandeliers, the falsetto of champagne flutes greeting one another, and happily, it’s found its way onto invitations. We love it softly printed on the surface of the invitation, as a vellum wrap, or as a glam envelope liner. Whether your venue is the historic Ohio State House, or an elegant ballroom in a cosmopolitan hotel, let marble be your guide.

Garnet, Marsala, Merlot

Or, what happens when red grows up and moves to Paris. Beyond the classics (blush, black, gold, and navy), this is the color we’ve had more couples embrace, and we love it! We love it as an envelope, we love it stamped with copper foil, and we love it for a calligraphic script. Some of us love it so much, we used it in our own wedding stationery. Wink wink.

Floral Liners

Floral envelope liners are the icing on the proverbial cake, adding sweetness and whimsy to even the most traditional of invitations. Use them for a pop of color, or a sophisticated surprise in black and white.

Sparkly bellybands

“Need I say more?”– Michelle, director of custom printing. Actually, no. These glitzy accessories speak for themselves.

It's form and function with this On Paper design--the belly band, glamorous as it is, also keeps the dove grey pocket folder from popping open

 Painterly

At first brush this concept seems quite specific. While it makes sense for couples getting married at the Columbus Museum of Art or the Cincinnati Art Museum, this trend has potential beyond the gallery scene. Think a swanky hotel, refurbished warehouse space, or riverside restaurant with windows from floor to ceiling.
