Spotlight: Wax Sealing Kit

Is it hot in here? You better believe it! And it's not just because of the ocean of candles I've surrounded myself with the moment I got a little chilly. We're burning with excitement to show each and every one of you the thrill on how to apply personalized wax stamp seals to all those letters you'll be sending this holiday season.

Wax sealing is a unique process whose origins trace back to ancient Mesopotamia. Evolving further in the Middle Ages and specifically due to high illiteracy rates, wax seals were a common practice to help easily identify notable and wealthy individuals. Though they've lost their core purpose in the modern internet era, they still serve as beautiful insignias that elevate anyone's letters.

The process may sound a bit daunting at first, but that first time peeling away the brass dye and discovering your very own symbol to be sent to the people you care for most is simply magical. Perhaps you've seen a professional show you their skills on Facebook or TikTok. You absolutely can do this too and we'd love to help you get started. Overall, the simplicity of the act is rather straightforward: wax --> candle --> stamp. Not too bad, eh?

My personal recommendation for a basic kit to get you started would be a medium melting spoon and one or two sticks of your preferred color wax. The glue gun compatible wax is a cheaper option that melts and dries quickly. I believe these are the best tools to practice sealing a stamp or two before committing to any stationery you will be giving away. Keep in mind you will need your own candle in this scenario.

That said, yours truly is staring at his own desktop wax melting set he purchased over a year ago as he writes this. I must've have used it 40 or so times in the past year with the J. Herbin sealing wax. I can't tell you how excited I am to send mail nowadays. And you better believe not a single recipient of mine receives a letter that I haven't stamped. Be warned, once you take the plunge, there's no coming back!

If you're still a bit unsure about the process, we'd love to go even further and provide a demonstration for you. Visit us at 743 N. High Street in downtown Columbus for a hands on lesson. Otherwise, if you're familiar with the process, just super confident, or defiantly determined to go straight to the best, we have plenty more options to allow you to wax stamp exactly the way you see fit. I've also organized some products below - feel free to peruse while I blow out some of these candles...
