Welcome to our 20th Year!

The traditional gift for a 20th anniversary is china, but as it’s On Paper’s 20th year we prefer to celebrate with paper, paper, and more paper!

It’s true! From it’s brick-and-mortar home on North High Street, On Paper has been designing wedding invitations and selling fine stationery, handsome writing instruments, and hand-bound journals for two decades. We’re planning a year of pomp and circumstance and we hope you’ll join us!

Chin chin!

Among the festivities, we’ve planned monthly workshops to gather our fellow paper lovers together. In December we hosted our first in the series: a typewriter social, which is exactly what it sounds like, and better! Richard Polt, author of "The Typewriter Revolution" and one of Ohio’s typewriter aficionados, joined us in the shop for an evening of show-and-tell, eggnog, cookies, and click, click, dinging. We had an amazing turn out despite the chilly weather, including a renaissance man (aged 16) from Tennessee whose mother drove him up for the evening. Also in attendance were an Arabic typewriter, a teensy traveling typewriter with its own collapsible desk, and a dazzling emerald green Royal from the 1930s.

In January, we’ve got hand-lettering guru Jolie Ankrom of Brim Papery on hand in the shop leading us from chicken scratch to flowing and fabulous. Register now! The class is nearly full, but if you can’t make this one be sure you’re signed up to receive our e-mails—we hope to schedule another lettering lesson soon!

On Sunday, March 13, our resident illustrator and chalkboard dynamo Cassie gives us the 411 on designing whimsical (and useful) signage like to do lists and menus in the fun and forgiving medium of chalk on board. Cassie’s work graced our Halloween window and is a favorite of patrons and passersby, alike.  Don't forget to register!

Pretty spooktacular

In April (just in time for summer weddings), our graphic designer and queen of assembly, Lynsey, will offer helpful pointers on DIY wedding invitation design, including tools of the trade she uses most. Bring your questions, she'll have the answers! You'll be able to register for this soon.

Further into spring, we’ll be learning to cut and create paper flowers with Michelle. (Green thumb not necessary!) Her handiwork is on display in our holiday window (winner of the People's Choice Award) and the ever-popular paper flower wreaths that hang in the shop. Stay tuned, date to come!

Writers, get your favorite pen or pencil and journal, and join yours truly (Beth) for a writing social in summer. We’ll loosen up with prompts, discuss different approaches to journaling, and sip refreshing beverages. While my work isn’t on display in the shop, I'm the blogtress and I've published a poetry chapbook with Kent State University/Wick Poetry Center. This date is yet to be set, but we’ll keep you posted!

These workshops are just the beginning of our year of celebrating. We’re ever so proud of 20 years and hope you’ll join us early and often as we toast this anniversary.

 Cheers!
